Let’s go

Get to know Paris through an Erasmus program: Culture and food are guaranteed!

As a student, you are usually adventurous and want to discover the world. Does that also apply to you?

Have you also already achieved a certain level of French? Great, then nothing stands in the way of an Erasmus stay in the city of love!

Paris is the economic, political and cultural center of France. This is where the music plays, even when it comes to degrees and the best universities in the country.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s the Sorbonne, Sciences Po or Dauphine – the selection of elite universities in Paris is remarkable.

It should be said that it is extremely important for the French to study at a good university. In Germany, what counts is still more what you get out of your studies and how you know how to apply what you have learned in practice.

If you want to go to a French elite university à la ENA or Polytechnique, you shouldn’t expect people to just “chill out” here.

You often find yourself in elitist circles here, because in France it’s difficult to get into one of these universities if you have to Small change or the notorious “vitamin B” is missing.

Studying in Paris is definitely worthwhile

One or even several semesters at one of these universities will improve your CV considerably on an international level.

If you love museums and art, there is no way around Paris anyway . The city is probably the most famous and at least the most visited in the world, not least because of the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Co.

Tip: As young Europeans under the age of 26, you can get public museums and Monuments free entry.

The restaurants are unique in Paris, provided you know where you are going. Of course, there are also a few “tourist traps” in the center.

The app “La Fourchette” is a popular platform for restaurants in France, similar to TripAdvisor, but on yours too Attractive discounts get!

In terms of price, Paris is of course a house number and the rents are about twice as expensive as in cities like Berlin or Hamburg.

For a reasonably centrally located, 15 square meter apartment costs about 750 euros. Pretty intense, isn’t it?

In return, you will receive financial support from the Erasmus program of currently €315/month (as of 2018).

You can use this money , as you wish. In addition, the French family fund “CAF” pays students a subsidy for their apartment of around 120 euros per room.

With these subsidies, you will then get back to roughly the rents in Germany.

Although it has to be said that Paris is also more expensive for other everyday things than in this country. Therefore, if possible, you should save up a little money for your stay in advance (unless you work in Paris.)

What you then do with your stay is entirely up to you ! Try to talk to local people as much as possible and use your French as much as you possibly can!

Here you can find some testimonials about Erasmus in Paris.

In Paris find a job or an internship and learn French

A mini-job in the heart of Paris

You want to immerse yourself in French working life and in France work? Even if your level of French is initially modest: It is still worthwhile to send applications to French companies, because they value German skills immensely.

You have good prospects here, especially as a waiter or in the tourism industry.

Don’t forget that Germany and France are the most important trading and economic partners for each other! There are also a number of German-French political initiatives in which you can get involved.

Today there are German-French job exchanges, e.g. on Connexion-Emploi .

If good French skills are really required, then you could consider investing in an intensive language course or a private tutor for French tuition. You can find the latter here on Superprof! (see link)

Jobs in Paris are usually relatively well paid!

However, the “classic” way to get a job in Paris is to start as an au pair.

There are many wealthy Parisian families who would like to want your child to learn German.

The parents usually work during the day, which means that you do the housework. In addition, you have to be there for the child almost around the clock. It’s definitely not for everyone!

But for your work you get free board and lodging (usually in pretty fancy apartments in pretty fancy neighborhoods of Paris).

You will also receive a small amount of pocket money, which you can use to do some nice things in the French capital.

Complete an internship in Paris

Internships are available in the Easy to get compared to permanent positions in France. This is partly due to the fact that interns receive relatively low pay, just like in Germany (around €3.50/h as minimum wage!).

But that shouldn’t stop you from getting a “Stage” in Paris, because sometimes work experience and improving your French level is worth more than good pay.

A certain level of French is often a prerequisite. But you can work your way up to it in a variety of ways, provided you have the necessary motivation!

Let me also say this to you: never forget that there are some There are significant differences that you should deal with beforehand!

Otherwise you run the risk of offending someone or suffering culture shock yourself!

Let’s go

Dare to take a language trip to Paris – enjoy and learn French at the same time!

Anyone who decides to language trip has the advantage that he combines vacation and work.

You have a lot of free time, but you still have a daily program. And this does not only consist of learning!

Most language schools offer a extensive leisure program, which includes visits to museums or excursions, e.g. to the Palace of Versailles or to Disneyland.

Depending on the school, the participants of such language trips are usually between 21 and 60 years old. From young to old, everything is there!

If you like going to museums, you will love the Louvre!

Participants can take different courses during their language trip to Paris. The types of courses offered by all language schools include separate French courses for pupils and students as well as for working adults.

Cost for such language stays including lodging: about 600 to 1000 € – each depending on the chosen course and accommodation!

Our advice: In order to make as many new friends as possible, we recommend that you move into a shared student flat or, even better, a French host family!

< p>So you can learn French at home the evening after the program…

Make sure that you don’t choose accommodation that is too far away from the action.< /p>

In Paris, the suburban trains (RER) and underground (Métro) are often hopelessly overcrowded. Coming from a suburb is therefore really not a nice thing!

Learn French in an intensive course at a Paris university

  • Number of hours: 40 hours

The lessons take place from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and in addition to the courses, cultural activities such as museum visits, exhibitions, district tours, conferences, etc. are offered.< /p>

These three weeks in Paris offer each participant the opportunity to improve or perfect their French, immerse themselves in French culture and discover the diverse cultural heritage of the French capital.

The excursions will also be an opportunity for exchanges between participants from all over the world, but also with the teachers who will accompany them.

Paris has an incredible amount of culture to offer

Of course, this type of French course is also offered at other universities in Paris, e.g. at the Université Paris-Sud or the Dauphine.

At the end of a test (for a fee), which you must take online before registering, you will be assigned to the respective classes according to your French level. This is how groups are formed with a homogeneous level.
